What is Tendril?
Tendril is a decentralized intelligence network where everyday people help power open-source AI and earn TEND Points. There are two ways to take part, and you can do one or both. On a computer you open a browser tab and it quietly runs AI work in the background using only your spare capacity. On your phone you play Tap to Train: you see two AI answers and tap the better one. Each tap is a human-preference judgment that helps make AI better.
The three networks
Tendril is made of three networks. Compute comes from browser and desktop nodes. Human judgment comes from Tap to Train. The open data those create, model rankings, human preferences, and language performance, is treated as a public good. Contributors supply compute and judgment, open-source AI labs and foundations get better datasets and evaluations, and value flows back to the people who power the network.
Why it matters
Many AI models barely speak the world's languages and fall short on what matters locally, like health, learning, and farming. Tendril works to improve AI for underserved languages, including Swahili, Yoruba, Hausa, Amharic, Thai, Tagalog, and Bahasa Indonesia. The open human-feedback data the network creates is published for everyone, and is available to AI labs and foundations as open datasets.
What you earn
You earn TEND Points for everything you contribute. They are your rank, your reputation, and your proof that you helped build AI in the open. No wallet, no setup, and no crypto knowledge is needed to start.
Common questions
Is it safe? Yes. Tendril runs inside your browser, sandboxed like any website. It only does AI work in the background and never touches your files, your accounts, or your personal data. Pause or close it whenever you want. More on safety.
Is it real people, or bots? Real people. We score agreement across contributors, rate-limit suspicious activity, and run quality checks, so anything we cannot trust earns nothing.
How is this different from Grass and similar apps? Those rent out your internet connection and keep the value. With Tendril you help build open-source AI itself, and the data the network creates is a public good. Tendril compared with Grass.
